Lightning Labs Launches Desktop App for Bitcoin Mainnet

Bitcoin scaling made easy. Lightning Labs launches the first desktop version of its client on the Bitcoin Mainnet. Users can now download the Lightning Client for Linux, MacOS and Windows. This is another hurdle in the direction of BTC adaptation.

Bitcoin also scales without larger blocks. This underlined Lightning Labs once again with the release of the latest version of the Lightning app for the three major operating systems.

As the US company announced in a blog post, Bitcoin enthusiasts can now access the Alpha version 0.5.0 of the Lightning Desktop Client and download for testing purposes.

However, the prefix “Alpha” already suggests it: Even with the latest update, it is only a trial version. Therefore caution is advised in the use Lightning Labs:

“We want to remind users that this is a very young technology, so there is a risk that you will lose all your funds, and we recommend users no longer testing the current alpha version of the software Putting money into the app when you’re ready to lose.

Next station: Mobile

According to the press release, the launch of the desktop version of the Lightning Labs client has taken a major hurdle. From the user experience with the software, the company hopes to gain important insights for the next step: the launch of the mobile versions for Android and iOS smartphones. It is “working to bring out as soon as possible, the Mainnet apps for Android and iOS,” it says.

Since Lightning is a bitcoin scaling solution with a clear payment reference, the focus on mobile apps seems traceable and should also further boost crypto adaptation in the retail sector.

Neutrino Client ensures better usability

According to the company, the latest desktop version is based on the Neutrino Light Client. It is a client that ensures more anonymity and improved security (the private keys always remain with the user) – without users having to synchronize in advance the entire, currently around 200 GB Bitcoin blockchain. Because of this slimness Neutrino is also suitable for smartphone implementations.
